The Summer Reading Kick-Off Party will be held from
10am-2pm on Wednesday, June 11th on the back lawn and pavilion area of the library. All ages welcome!
Come see Rocky the Reading Rabbit, Ronald McDonald, Muddy the Mudcat, the Chick-Fil-A Cow, Gardner’s Barbecue, Sparky the Firedog, McGruff the Crime dog, Sensory Safari Mobile Exhibit, a stilt walker, magician, Bubbles the Clown, and enjoy snacks, games, prizes and lots more!
SUMMER READING PROGRAM PARTICIPATION CATEGORIES
READ-TO-ME GROUP - this group has parents, caregivers or
older siblings read to them – children choose a prize book after
they have had thirty(30) books read to them
ELEMENTARY READER GROUP - these children read on their
own – when they have read fifteen (15) books they may choose a prize book
YOUNG ADULT GROUP - YA’s read either young adult level
books or adult books – when they have read ten(10) books
they may choose a prize book
“Bugs ‘N’ Stuff”
Join Safari Steve for an entertaining look at the world around us on Wednesday, June 25 at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm in the Warner Meeting Room at Braswell Memorial Library. Safari Steve, The Amazing Teacher, will make science come to life with his presentation of “Bugs ‘N’ Stuff.”
This exciting program covers the life cycles of insects and plants, their importance to the ecosystem, how they help and harm humans, and more. Participants will discover what makes the insect world the most diverse and largest animal group on the Earth.
Designed around the K-5 statewide learning objectives in science, “Bugs ‘N’ Stuff” causes children to learn while having fun at the same time. Children will laugh at the antics of Safari Steve’s puppet friend, Franklin Frog. They will be amazed as Safari Steve uses books, tricks, music, and drama to illustrate fascinating things that live in their own backyard.

“SNAKES ALIVE"
Ron Cromer, Specialist in Herpetology
On Wednesday, July 9, Ron Cromer, Specialist in Herpetology, will present “Snakes Alive” at Braswell Memorial Library. Identical programs are scheduled for 11:00 am and 2:00 pm in the Warner Meeting Room.
Learn about life’s most misunderstood animals, meet a variety of gentle reptiles, heighten your understanding of nature, and experience exciting hands-on opportunities. The program is designed to give you clear, concise insight into the lives, habits, and characteristics of reptiles, especially snakes. The “hands-on” session is an opportunity to hold and pet approximately two dozen tamed snakes. The session concludes with a finale of a giant python available for holding and petting. A “snake-free” zone will be provided for those who do not comfortable participating in the petting session.

“FISH THE MAGISH”
Join “Fish the Magish "on an exciting magical adventure, sure to thrill young and old alike! “Fish the Magish” will perform two identical performances at Braswell Memorial Library Wednesday, July 16th at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm in the Warner Meeting Room.
“Fish the Magish” programs are developmentally appropriate and full of participation and fun! A full time magician, specializing in magic for children, his comedy educational presentations include a refreshing mix of storytelling, lively audience participation, and magical surprises for everyone! “Fish the Magish” provides an excellent program with a focus on responsibility. Through interaction, humor, and exciting MAGIC, positive reinforcement and rewards for good behavior are emphasized. Children love the imagination, the spontaneity, and the sense of fun that is the hallmark of his performances.

Rainbow Puppets to Present
“Creatures Great and Small”
Braswell Memorial Library is proud to present “Creatures Great and Small” performed by Rainbow Puppets Productions Wednesday, July 23, at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm in the Warner Meeting Room.
An acrobatic flea, a giant stegosaurus and practically everything in between appear in Rainbow Puppet Production’s latest musical, “Creatures Great and Small.” Grandpa, a fixture in Rainbow Puppets since 1977, leads audience members on a musical review of animal songs and stories. During the course of the program, meet all sorts of marine life including singing fish, a Blue Crab and a Fiddler Crab. Farley the Fiddler Crab will lead the audience in a bluegrass styled hoe-down; Bert the Blue Heron will perform a high-stepping big band number.
All songs are written by David Messick, an award-winning author who has created many touring children’s musicals. Other highlights of the show include “The Three Little Pig Opera” and a pair of singing dinosaurs.
