Message from Alice Thorp, Library Board of Trustees Chair
On behalf of the Board of Trustees of Braswell Memorial Library, welcome to our webpage. The trustees represent both Nash and Edgecombe counties and the city of Rocky Mount and are appointed by their respective county commissioners and city councilmen. The county managers, city manager, and the superintendent of Nash- Rocky Mount Schools also serve. The Board meets the 2nd Wednesday every other month (February, April, June, August, October, December) at 11:45 a.m. Meetings are open and the public is welcome.
The Trustees are extremely proud of this Library facility and its staff. We encourage all citizens of the twin county area to use it and to participate in the many programs offered through it. Libraries continue to play a vital role in our community today. With technology now dominating our lives, the role of libraries has changed to meet the demands and challenges of our modern world – and Braswell Memorial Library leads the way in providing free access to technology and support for the reading and information needs of all area residents.
We continue to encourage and support the staff in their ability to provide up to date services to our patrons as well as support to the other libraries in our area. We recognize the importance of every public and school library in filling a need that is vital for the communities they serve.
The Trustees are committed to providing you with the best Library services and programs possible. We are honored to represent you and try to keep that foremost in our minds when making decisions. Not surprisingly, the budget presents a challenge as we try to balance meeting the needs of all of our patrons through our staff, hours of operation, services, and programs with the money we receive from our local funders and other sources.
The Trustees sincerely hope you find that Braswell Memorial Public Library lives up to its vision: “To enrich the lives of its users by supporting reading and literacy, providing access to information, and serving as a distinctive destination for the community”.
